July 8 is a big day for me. Three years ago, Dreamspinner Press published my first novel, Better Than Good. I had no idea what to expect. My social media presence was nonexistent to weak at best. LOL. I didn’t know how to promote myself and I really didn’t know anyone in the business, but this story mattered to me. A lot. Not because it was my first book, darn it, but because I believed in the message of hope. If you’ve read any of my blog posts, you may already know this part of my story. I wrote Better Than Good when my eldest son left for college. He’d come out to his father and me a couple of days beforehand. I was thrilled for him, but nervous. He was going to San Francisco so I should have been relieved that he was going to be in a LGBT mecca with close family friends nearby. However, I’m his mom. I know this kid. I had a feeling his “coming out process” was going to take a while. (It did…lol) BTG was a love letter of sorts to him. Better Than Good is about the personal journey of a young man who meets someone who inspires him to be himself, his whole self. It’s about coming to terms with preconceived notions and taking a stand, even when you know it’s going to rock the boat. In Matt’s case, meeting Aaron was his beginning. For me, it was a beginning as well. My tenth book, A Kind of Honesty, will be released in September. I’m hard at work on number eleven and I’ve plotted basic story lines for two books in my next series (which, by the way, will take place in San Francisco 😉 ). I love writing, I love romance and I believe passionate, realistic, hopeful LGBT stories are important. I may have fallen into my new career path by chance, but I love what I do. I’m hooked! I’d hoped to release a short story to commemorate this anniversary. Don’t worry! It’s still coming, but it looks like late summer is a more realistic time table. I will say this… if you’ve read the next three books in the series, you probably know what the short is going to be about. 😉 If you haven’t, read on! The Better Than Bundle is only $9.99 now! I’ll be doing a couple giveaways today (July 9) to celebrate Matt & Aaron and our 3 year anniversary on Facebook at the MM Daily Grind. (If you aren’t a member and would like to be, let me know.) Stop on by!As always, thank you very much for your support and encouragement. You make writing a joy!
Happy Reading! Lane xo
